Successive governments in Pakistan have patronised the Jamaat. However, Pakistan has passed a resolution supporting the Tablighi Jamaat. The Saudi regime had called Tablighi Jamaat a gate to terrorism while prohibiting all its activities on Saudi soil. Pakistan backed the activities of the Tablighi Jamaat even after the recent ban on the group by Saudi Arabia. Pakistani Tablighi Jamaat shares many common features with Hizb ut-Tahrir (banned across Central Asia and Russia) that wants to establish a caliphate in Central Asia and may have been emboldened by the return of the Taliban in Kabul. The Indian Tablighi Jamaat has no connection or link with Pakistani Tablighi Jamaat’s activities in Central Asia. The group is banned across Central Asia, Iran and Russia. It has allegedly made inroads into Kazakhstan’s neighbour Kyrgyzstan (Almaty is located close to the Kyrgyz border) as well as in Russia. Over the last decade, Pakistan’s Tablighi Jamaat has made attempts to carry out proselytizing activities in Central Asia. ![]() ![]() Pakistan’s Tablighi Jamaat, which has been trying to make inroads in Central Asia including in Kazakhstan, is alleged to have played a role in creating a terror-type atmosphere in Kazakhstan, known for its liberal and secular values, ET has learnt.
